3 Benefits Of
Medical Skin Peels

Chemical skin peels are one of the oldest cosmetic treatments dating back to the Ancient Egyptian's who bathed in natural acids derived from fruit and milk. Nowadays, there are a wide range of acids to address skin tone, texture, congestion and pigmentation.
Medical grade skin peels help improve the appearance of the skin by reducing signs of ageing, acne scarring, superficial blemishes, melasma, and pigmentation revealing clearer, youthful, and healthy glowing skin.
Chemical skin peels come in several different strengths of solution. They involve the application of a solution over the face, or certain areas on the body, which is left for a few minutes to chemically penetrate the epidermis, and deeper layers of the skin, exfoliating and remodelling the skin layers.
Skin peels are suitable for most people. A skin consultation, and patch test, will be required prior to commencing treatment. (A minimum course of 3-6 monthly treatments is recommended depending on skin concerns.)
The skin will be cleansed in preparation for treatment. A chemical solution will be applied and you may feel a mild to moderate skin tingling/ burning sensation depending on the strength of the peel and the sensitivity of your skin type. After a few minutes, the solution will be neutralised, removed, and a high factor SPF cream applied to moisturise the skin post procedure.
The skin may feel tight with slight erythema (skin reddening) but this should settle after a few hours. Over the next few days, the skin surface (epidermis) will begin to 'shed' and gentle exfoliation is recommended, or alternatively a dermaplaning facial is the preferred choice for some patients two weeks after a skin peel.
As mentioned, chemical skin peels aim to significantly improve the appearance of acne scarring, blemishes, pigmentation and general signs of skin ageing. Results are variable depending on the condition of the skin before treatment begins and the overall goal.
Treatments depend on the current condition of the skin and overall results you are aiming to achieve. (For best results, a course of 3-6 monthly treatments are recommended for optimal results.)
